“It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine…”
(Do I even need to credit R.E.M.?)
It’s 2012. The end of the world according to the Mayan calendar. And I feel fine… if fine stands for “Freaked out Insecure Neurotic and Emotional.”
(That’s an Italian Job movie quote).
These last few months, I’ve felt like a jump rope. Up. Down. Up Down.
(Thanks Blue October.)
One day I’ve got inspiration, insight, awareness. The next day I’m spun out, lost, and confused.
Most of my bright shiny friends have been feeling the same. Read a few astrologers. Then look around at the chaotic messes on a global level: weather, government, finances, food. I think it’s safe to say 2012 is a big culprit.
If we look to popular culture, we hear a Chicken Little prophesy, “The sky is falling! The sky is falling!” The end of the world/2012 is something to fear. Solar Eruptions. Tsunamis. Polar Axis Shifts. World War III. Biblical Prophesies Fulfilled. Asteroid Hitting the Planet.
Still breathing??
Perhaps the idea that “the world is ending” is a misinterpretation. Rather it’s an end of one cycle and the beginning of a vast transformation. Kind of like New Year’s Eve.
From my humble Shaman Girl point of view, this once in a 26,000-year event (or 5,125 years depending on which expert you believe) is the biggest opportunity of our lifetimes.
It’s a choice.
We create our own reality.
So where do you want to put your attention?
In this new cycle, we’ll experience: A Big Shift. Oneness. Inclusion. Acceptance. Inner Peace. Ancient Wisdom.
That sounds pretty good, right?
“It is the end of selfishness and the beginning of brotherhood. It is the end of individualism and the beginning of collectivism… the end of hatred and the beginning of love. The end of lies and the beginning of truth. It is the end of sadness and the beginning of joy. It is the end of division and the beginning of unity…”
(President Evo Morales of Bolivia addressing the United Nations 9/26/2012)
I’m ready to CELEBRATE. Let’s celebrate that we made it through all the a-ha’s, all the letting go, all the discovering our wounded beliefs and our vulnerable truths. Let’s celebrate awareness. Love. Intent. Consciousness. Abundance. Let’s celebrate the miracle of getting another free ride around the sun.
I want to celebrate the miracle of you and of me and of this planet. Of people coming together and being still, moving our bodies, chanting, healing, releasing old energy and inviting in new.
We need each and every one of us to hold the space and invite in a new consciousness.
I’m ready. Are you?
Shaman Girl
P.S. Seriously, we are planning an End of the World PARTY on 12/20/12 and 12/21/12. If you can join me and Yogini Ivana Ustariz, Zen Priest Joan Amaral, and Energy Worker Janeen Barnett in person, we’ll be rocking out at St. Andrew’s Church in Marblehead. All’s the info’s here. If not, join us in spirit.
I hate to be nitpicky, but it drives me crazy when people post La Piedra del Sol, which is Aztec, and call it the Mayan calendar. What you’ve posted is the Aztec calendar.
Accuracy means something to me–impeccability of the word and all that.
The Mayans believed time was cyclical, not linear. That implies that there is no end, just more cycles. The Mayan Long Count date that begins in 3114 BC and ends in 2012 spans a period of 5,125 years, not 26,000. And Neil DeGrasse Tyson, renowned scientist, says that the alignment of Earth, the Sun and the Galactic Center on Dec. 21st is an event as common as your birthday.
So. I understand the need to create urgency in order to make changes in one’s life, but let’s not drag the Mayans into it. The hard work of personal transformation must be done no matter what’s going on with the planets or with the misinterpreted writings of an ancient civilization.
Have a happy celebration! May your new cycle bring you everything your heart desires.
Love, Syl
Hi Sylvia,
Thank you for your impeccability. After sitting with what you wrote, I realized that although I don’t know a lot more than what I’ve Googled on the Mayan Calendar, I do know what I am experiencing and what I’ve heard so many others are experiencing. Is this from all the hype? Or because there is some universal shift at play? I don’t know. What I do know is that using the mythology of the “world ending” has brought forth rich transformations – not just for myself but it’s activated something in our mass consciousness. I’m having fun playing with what’s ending within me and what is emerging. My apologies to the Mayans if I’ve got it all wrong! Lots of love, Meghan
This is a great post. Thanks so much for sharing, like always.
